Typical Saturday of food-shopping. Went to: Old Strathcona Market, City Market, then Italian Centre. Ate and purchased some beautiful food and wanted to share with everyone.
Gorgeous golden beets from Riverbend Gardens – Purchased a bunch for $4 but the beet greens on these were so large it consumed my entire shopping bag. Can’t wait to sautee some of those up tonight.
Went over to City Market and visited Queen of Tarts bakery for some of my beloved lemon curd (making lemon ricotta pancakes tomorrow morning) but also purchased some scones, 2 of each they had left – rum raisin, orange cardamon, and rhubarb cranberry. Sunday brunch is going to be amazing!
I also found some BC morels at Mo-Na Food at City Market, He was super busy when I went by with a crowd gathered. Couldn’t help myself, purchased 1/2 lb and now searching for recipes, Looking for suggestions on ways to cook these morels to showcase them well.
Perhaps the most exciting purchase of my day was the Vanilla Waffle with maple syrup (no whip cream) from Eva Sweet Waffle van. Although I’ve seen these vans around town at different markets, I had never stopped for one. From the first bite, I knew I’d be back. It had this sugary texture (crystals of pearl sugar throughout the waffle) which I loved. Nothing like a fresh waffle. The gentleman is also such a sweet man, sitting in front of his van, myself and another couple were watching his friendly demeanor and great service. Counting down until my next one.
All in all a very successful shopping day!
